Biography
Robin Hall is an English composer and arranger writing music to meet the needs of today’s advancing media; and specializing in scoring music for film, television, video games, as well as music to accompany adverts on radio, TV and other types of interactive media. He holds a double degree in Film Scoring and Jazz Composition from Boston’s Berklee College of Music.
His musical palate is broad and he writes convincingly and imaginatively across many musical mediums. Whether it be a tragic love story, fantasy or grand action adventure, he enhances and heightens the impact of the visual media and overall experience of the viewer through sensitive, discerning and creative use of scoring techniques and composition in empathy with the producer’s creative objectives.
Robin’s versatile use of technology combined with his experience and industry knowledge allows him to adapt to many roles across the music spectrum; e.g. composer, orchestrator, conductor, producer or mixer and so provide one interface for clients, whether requiring a single or more diverse musical package.
Robin understands the commercial pressures in today’s environment and the importance of schedules and budget management on project viability, and resourcefully leverages the most current technology and trends to provide cost effective, creative solutions aligned with agreed objectives.
Primary Skills
- I compose original works for private or public events, corporate use, visual (film/TV/advertisements) and interactive media (computer gaming, training & instructional programs) as well as radio. I can work in many music styles and compose for any size ensemble, e.g. full orchestra, 5 horn jazz ensemble, quartet/quintet for string or wind, rock band etc.
- I will take a simple melodic or harmonic idea and transform it in to an orchestral medium or ensemble for instruments and/or voice, e.g. rock band, horn quintet, choir etc.
- I conduct at live events and recording sessions with an objective of revealing the most expressive and dynamic qualities of the written music through unification of the ensemble and the use of discerning and objective creative decisions.
- I will take a piece of music at any stage of completion and adapt it to a new style, new instrumentation or even add newly composed original music.
- Preparing for the recording studio or performance; by taking a musical score and writing out the individual parts to a professional standard, performing corrections on any notational or other errors that may previously have been overlooked, in order to minimize performance issues and achieve a more efficient use of artists at the performance or recording session.
Additional Skills
- I will create a focused team across music departments, building a unified and aligned goal that, by creative decision making, will meet the client requirements and ensure a close client relationship.
- Editing music and audio to fit the need of the project (often film), which will create seamless continuity, create “temp tracks” & a synched soundtrack to the enhanced finished product.
